The CISA certification is a popular mid-career credential for IT professionals. It is designed for IT/IS auditors, control, assurance and information security professionals.  Certified Information System Auditors audit, control and provide security of information systems for a multitude of industries throughout the business and IT sectors. Students in this class will review and analyze selected CISA and CRISC audit and assessment function domains. Utilizing their domain knowledge, students will complete case study audit and assessment tasks. Students will also prepare for the CISA Certification.

Upon completing this course, students are expected to be able to:

  • Develop and implement a risk-based IT audit strategy in compliance with IT audit standards.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the IT governance structure to ensure alignment with the organization’s objectives.

  • Review the business case for proposed investments in information systems acquisition, development, maintenance, and subsequent retirement.

  • Conduct periodic reviews of information systems and evaluate operational and business resilience.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of information protection measures, including confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

  • Identify and manage IT risks, ensuring they remain within acceptable levels.

  • Understand and apply relevant laws, policies, and standards related to information systems.

  • Evaluate IT management frameworks and practices to ensure the organization’s control processes meet its needs.

In order to earn the CISA certification, students must complete two primary steps: fulfill the experience requirement and pass an exam through ISACA. The experience requirement consists of having five or more years of experience in IS/IT auditing, control, assurance or security, though waivers are available in some cases for up to a maximum of three years. Students do not need to complete the experience requirement before sitting for the exam- these steps can be completed in any order.

After passing the test and completing the experience requirement, students must submit an application for the credential and pay the applicable fee. The application includes an experience verification form that must be signed by managers/supervisors attesting to the experience requirement.
