Science, Associate of Science


Purpose

The Associate of Science, Science Degree (Plan Code 880) is designed for persons who are interested in transferring into a science or pre-professional baccalaureate program. This program is designed to prepare students for programs with an emphasis on STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math). Scientifically oriented persons are in demand in business, government, industry, and a variety of health professions. The A.S. in Science requires a minimum of 60 credits for graduation.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize the scientific method including analysis and drawing conclusions from generated scientific data and be able to present and defend findings.
  • Successfully transfer to a four-year college or university.
  • Read, write, and analyze effectively across disciplines.
  • Recognize and interpret the meaning of quantitative and mathematical symbols appropriate for logic processes to make meaningful decisions and solve problems.

Passport and UCGS Transfer Courses


All courses in the Science program, except SDV 100 College Success Skills, have the potential to be used as courses to meet a requirement in the Virginia Passport milestone and the Uniform Certificate of General Studies. Students wishing to complete the Virginia Passport or earn the Uniform Certificate of General Studies should consult those pages in the catalog when selecting courses for the A. S. Science program.

Students need 60 credits to meet all requirements for the Associate of Science Degree. This means one of the Math/Science electives must be 4 credits.
