Purpose
The Education Associate of Science (Plan Code 625) is designed to prepare its graduates to work in educational and childcare settings providing care and education for children from birth to age twelve. The program includes a 15-week supervised internship in an early childhood educational facility.
Program Learning Outcomes
Students will be able to:
- Describe the interworking of early childhood education programs and settings.
- Apply developmentally appropriate methods and materials to use with young children in an early childhood education setting.
- Analyze the physical, social, and emotional needs of young children in the early childhood development stages and the effects of not meeting those needs.
Passport and UCGS Transfer Courses
All courses in the Education program, except SDV 100 College Success Skills, have the potential to be used as courses to meet a requirement in the Virginia Passport milestone and the Uniform Certificate of General Studies. Students wishing to complete the Virginia Passport or earn the Uniform Certificate of General Studies should consult those pages in the catalog when selecting courses for the A. S. Education program.
