General Studies, Associate of Science

Purpose

The Associate of Science in General Studies (Plan Code 699) will prepare students to transfer to a four-year college or university to complete a baccalaureate degree. Students should work closely with a counselor or advisor to select appropriate coursework in preparation for transfer to their intended major and college or university.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Explore, interpret, and represent the human experience through the humanities, liberal arts, and social sciences.
  • Read, write, and analyze effectively across a number of disciplines.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking by identifying, interpreting, and evaluating information and articulating logical conclusions in multiple academic disciplines.

Passport and UCGS Transfer Courses

All courses in the General Studies program, except SDV 100 College Success Skills, have the potential to be used as courses to meet a requirement in the Virginia Passport milestone and the Uniform Certificate of General Studies. Students wishing to complete the Virginia Passport or earn the Uniform Certificate of General Studies should consult those pages in the catalog when selecting courses for the A. S. General Studies program.
