Education Support Specialist, Career Studies Certificate

Purpose

The Career Studies Certificate in Education Support Specialist prepares individuals for work as teaching assistants or substitute teachers in school settings.  It prepares them for work in guidance, behavior, development, and serving children with special needs.

The program includes a 40 hour supervised internship in an approved educational facility

Students enrolled in the Education Support Specialist Career Studies Certificate program may apply all credits earned to the college’s AAS degree in Early Childhood Education.

Program Requirements and Special Conditions

Students must meet ESCC admission requirements. Students must also complete placement tests (or equivalent) in English and mathematics, and scores will be used for appropriate course placement. If students have deficiencies in English and/or mathematics, ESCC offers developmental and prerequisite courses to prepare students for the curriculum. New students should see a counselor and returning students their advisor for more information.

Program Learning Outcomes

Students will be able to:

  • Create an appropriate integrated curriculum.
  • Analyze the physical, social, and emotional needs of young children in the early childhood development stages and the effects of not meeting those needs.
  • Demonstrate the ability to maintain appropriate classroom management in an early childhood setting.
